The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant prize-giving event draws close, there’s always a demand for introducing additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case for why my demand stands as crucial and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among the most-played games worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers are working at the hard edge game development, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
